New Feature: Document Multi-Uploader

July 13, 2008 – 4:07 pm by Lord Ravenclaw

In the past, when uploading stories I’ve noticed how long it takes to upload stories. It’s even worse for authors who are posting previously written stories. Thus I’ve developed (to Shezza’s delight), a way to upload multiple documents. Due to the funky way Javascript reads the Document Object Model, which is the hierarchy of HTML tags that Javascript manipulates one cannot add/subtract the number of documents per upload like one can sorting types in the new search engine. When these tags are loaded into a page say by AJAX, it doesn’t reload the DOM and makes it difficult to manipulate, requiring many hacks. So, currently, it’s limited to five documents per page.

My plan was to have a single upload box which users could add to as required. When I figure out a better way to load pages in the control panel, it will change to a system of variable uploads to allow for easier uploads of older stories.
